At Central, there are several statements about faith that
generally describe what we hold in common:
We believe…
About God: We believe that the nature of God is love.
We believe that God’s love is extended and available to every person, and to all of God’s creation.
We believe that God wants us to love one another by our actions and when necessary, by our words.
We believe that God wants us to love God.
About Jesus: We believe that Jesus is the Son of God. We believe that Jesus is the very expression of God in the world. If you want to know God, or know about God, look to the life, words and ministry of Jesus.
We believe that Jesus is the best example of how we are to love God and love each other.
We believe that Jesus’ death on the cross is the key to our salvation.
We believe that Jesus rose from the dead, and that his resurrection is the assurance that God is and will be victorious over evil.
We believe that Jesus will some day return, so that humankind and creation can return to right relationship with God the Creator.
About the Holy Spirit: We believe that the Holy Spirit is God’s gift to the church.
We believe that the Holy Spirit leads and guides the church and God’s people to do the things God wants us to do.
We believe that the Holy Spirit gives us the ability to do what God asks us to do.
We believe that the Holy Spirit assures us that God walks with us in all of our life.
About the Bible: We believe that the Bible is inspired and useful for giving us guidance in how to live our lives.
We believe that the Bible tells the story of how God has related with humankind and creation in history.
We believe that the Bible tells the story of how humankind has responded, and can respond, to God’s leadership.
We believe that the Bible gives us a model for how we can participate in the things of God.
About our Life Together: We believe that all of us, whether we participate in church or not, are on a journey of faith toward a deep, significant understanding of God.
We believe that church should be a safe place to hear the challenging, but good news of Jesus Christ and His call to be His followers.
We believe that the church, while flawed, is the instrument that God uses to do the work of the Kingdom.
