Last week’s Passport Youth Camp at Jacksonville University was an unforgettable experience. I, personally, have assisted in taking children and/or youth to at least 3 different “brands” of Christian camps besides our own camp and I can honestly say that this organization in my opinion is absolutely top-notch.
The students worked 3 hours each day at mission sites, the worship was spiritually sound and age appropriate, the games, parties and fun were all wholesome and appropriate for a church group. The housing and hospitality on the college campus was comfortable and welcoming. We were also impressed by the organization and training of the young adults who led the camp. Their commitment to missions and spreading the Gospel was evident in their demeanor and their mentoring attitudes toward both campers and leaders. (Please join me in thanking Melissa Gallman for re-arranging her work schedule to help chaperone.)
Central, as a congregation, is to be congratulated for making it possible for young middle-schoolers to see consistent examples of what it means to “live our faith” in real life. Here’s hoping that this is a new tradition that can continue as our youth group grows and as leaders from our congregation hear and accept the call to serve in this critical arena.
Many parts of our daily lives may not matter in years to come, but serving God by leading/mentoring youth WILL matter. Please join me in praying for greater congregational involvement with students from 6th through 12th grade for the purpose of BEING the presence of Christ in students’ lives.
In His Service, Linda
