Music is full of metaphors. The two “new” songs we are doing in service Sunday are no exception. Hurricanes, hearts, oceans, kisses, chasms, and open seas create images of love and grace. How He Loves by John Mark McMillan (made famous by David Crowder) is a mainstay in Contemporary Christian Music known around the world. It paints a picture of a God whose love is intimate and powerful, catching us off guard as it surrounds us. The story behind the music is really quite powerful. I hope this is a familiar song to each of you, but in case it is not: click the link!
The other “new” song is Your Love Never Fails by Jesus Culture. I got to try and teach the choir the general melodies on Wednesday and realized the rhythms are typically on the offbeats, so they can seem tricky on the first pass. As with most quality songs, however, they easily fit into place once you get the feel into your brain. It speaks to the immeasurability of God’s love; always working toward the good of all, unending and unchanging, God’s love is always with us.
Thanks for taking the time to read about these upcoming songs. I pray they bring us to a place of genuine worship as we reflect on Paul’s mission as seen in 1 Corinthians 12:27-13:13.
In case you missed them, links are found above for the YouTube versions of the songs.
Blessings.
