The Beams are Creaking is truly a collaboration of Gary Broughman’s faith-based production company, Positively Florida, and Central Baptist Church. Positively Florida has used its connections to draw in quality directors, actors and stage production, and Central Baptist has provided space for the production and practices, as well as actors that are a part of the cast (including Gary, Helen, Sonny Gallman, and several children from the church).

Background of the drama: Two days after Adolf Hitler was installed as chancellor of Germany in 1933, Dietrich Bonhoeffer—a young Christian theologian who completed his formal training just a few years earlier — delivered a radio address attacking Hitler’s leadership. He was cut off the air. That was just the beginning. Bonhoeffer would spend the next 12 years refuting Nazism and criticizing the German Christian Church‘s complicity in its racist, genocidal mission. He eventually participated in the resistance movement and was imprisoned and sent to the concentration camp at Buchenwald in April 1945 for his involvement in a group that tried to assassinate Hitler—the Valkyrie Conspiracy.
